At Dr. T. V. Gopalakrishnan’s Academy of Indian Music & Arts (AIMA), we believe that if you can speak, you can sing—and if you can sing, you can teach.
Yet, many talented musicians struggle to find a sustainable career. Despite years of study, they face barriers: lack of structured teacher training, limited opportunities to perform, or financial instability.
Achaarya Nipuna, a flagship initiative of AIMA’s Living in Arts Foundation (LiAF), bridges this gap. This 16-month diploma in music teacher training equips aspiring musicians and dancers with the skills, confidence, and professional readiness to become independent educators. It is not just a program—it is a pathway to dignity, livelihood, and cultural continuity.

This is more than training—it is a career-building diploma for musicians and dancers, designed for today’s world.
AIMA supports deserving candidates of the program with free accomodation, food in addition to a Stipend to enable them to train and complete the program successfully.
Deepa, a gold-medalist in vocal and veena, graduated from a prestigious music college. Yet, despite her academic excellence, she could not find gainful employment or regular performance opportunities in the competitive music world.
Her transformation began with the 12-month Achaarya Nipuna program, which unlike her four-year degree, focused on practical, essential teaching skills and relevant knowledge. Today, Deepa is a Senior Faculty at AIMA, earning around USD 370 per month. She is a shining example of how focused training can open doors that academic degrees alone cannot.
Kirushanthini, a Sri Lankan commerce graduate, had no formal introduction to the arts but carried immense passion for Bharatanatyam. Through Achaarya Nipuna, she received structured teacher training and administrative exposure.
Her journey over the past four years at AIMA’s headquarters has been remarkable. She grew into an accomplished Bharatanatyam trainer and administrator, earning USD 400 per month, while also developing excellent communication and leadership skills. Today, she heads an arts institution in Canada as Branch Head and Head Faculty of Bharatanatyam—proof that the program empowers not just teachers, but global cultural ambassadors.

If yes, Achaarya Nipuna is for you. With expert faculty, mentorship, and hands-on exposure, the program prepares you to confidently teach Carnatic music, Bharatanatyam, or allied arts—building a livelihood around your passion.

Whether you are an applicant eager to learn, or a donor eager to support, you are part of a movement that keeps India’s cultural traditions alive through empowered teachers.
Together, let’s train the next generation of music educators and cultural ambassadors.
